Welcome to The Ohio State University! While there are many opportunities to get involved at Ohio State, our 60 fraternities and sororities stand out as a unique and life-long involvement opportunity. Since Ohio State was founded in the late 1800s, there were few years where fraternity and sorority life was not a part of this university. A tradition as rich as Greek Life offers students an opportunity to experience leadership development, to serve the local Columbus and campus community, network with local alumni to form career connections during college and after graduation, and make lifelong friendships, among many others. In addition, at Ohio State as well as nationally, involvement in fraternities and sororities increases students' chances of graduating from college, as well as enhances their success in the classroom.
The joining process for fraternities and sororities enables first year students to take the entire Autumn quarter to get to know Ohio State, and research opportunities to get involved, while focusing on academics. Therefore it is important to know we ask that all students earn a 2.25 GPA and 12 college or university credit hours before joining a Greek organization. The formal recruitment, intake and joining process for both men and women begins in early January.
As a potential new member and parent, it is important that you sit down to discuss involvement in fraternities and sororities, having researched all of the opportunities available to you. Utilizing this resource as well as local and national chapter websites allows you to make an informed decision about which organization to join. Also, feel free to ask fraternities and sororities about the financial and housing responsibilities associated with membership. For groups who have facilities, each chapter has both housing and financial information available to you. Oftentimes, you will find that living in a Greek fraternity or sorority facility is less expensive than living in the campus residence halls or in off-campus housing.
Ohio State is committed to the success of the Greek community. Over the past few years, the university has dedicated significant resources and two full time staff members that oversee all 60 chapters in the Greek community. University resources provided to fraternities and sororities include leadership retreats and training, educational programs that cover topics such as time management, study skills, and career networking resources, an awards celebration that spotlights student leadership, and opportunities to send students to national fraternity and sorority conferences, just to name a few.
Please consider joining a fraternity or sorority at Ohio State. With 60 organizations to choose from, you are almost guaranteed to find an organization that provides the experience you are looking for.
To those current members and alumni, thank you for your continued commitment to improving the members and chapters at Ohio State. We hope you find this website to be a significant resource to you through your endeavors here on campus and beyond. We look forward to working with you to further enhance our ever growing Greek community.
Please feel free to contact Ryan Lovell or Helen Rotnem with further questions about the OSU fraternities and sororities.
Best of luck in your endeavors at Ohio State!
Go Greek! Go Bucks!
