Major Campus Events Committee
The Major Campus Events Committee (MCEC) is a cohort of students who work collaboratively to plan the Ohio Union’s traditional major campus events at Ohio State. This experience is open to any student, but may be of particular interest for students looking to go into event planning, a career in the field of Student Affairs, or as a capstone experience to their campus involvement.
General Expectations for Major Campus Events Committee:
· Expected time commitment for the MCEC is March 2012 - May 2013.
· Students must be on campus during the Spring Quarter 2012 and Autumn Semester 2012.
· Summer availability is dependent upon your event; some events require planning in the summer.
· Students must attend weekly meetings as well as additional training sessions.
· All positions are volunteer positions.
· Student applicants must have and maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA throughout the selection process and length of commitment.
· All student chairs must also participate in the Signature Events Collaborative.
· All students selected on the Committee must attend the MCEC Retreat
· Students will be involved in the planning, execution of, and volunteering at all Major Campus Events.
Committee Responsibilities:
Welcome Week: Responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating volunteers, and marketing Welcome Week events, including but not limited to Campus Locators.
Student Involvement Fair: Responsible for planning and implementing the Fall Involvement Fair during Welcome Week. Other responsibilities include soliciting sponsorship, soliciting student organization/university department/community business participation, and overall event coordination.
Homecoming Parade: Responsible for planning and implementing the Homecoming Parade. Other responsibilities include soliciting sponsorship, coordinating volunteers, and overall event marketing.
Beat Michigan Week: Responsible for planning and implementing all Beat Michigan Week programs, including the Pep Rally. Other responsibilities include soliciting sponsorship, coordinating volunteers, and overall event marketing.
Winter Involvement Fair: Responsible for planning and implementing the Winter Involvement Fair in January. Other responsibilities include soliciting sponsorship, soliciting student organization/university department participation, and overall event coordination.
Buckeye Showcase: Responsible for planning and implementing Buckeye Showcase, Ohio State’s Student Talent Competition. Other responsibilities include soliciting sponsorship, coordinating volunteers, and overall event marketing.
Commencement Week: Responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating volunteers, and marketing Commencement Week events, including the Things You Never Got to See Tour and the Commencement Eve Ceremony.
New Major Campus Events: The Major Campus Events Committee has the ability to create, develop, and execute new events.
