What is Community Commitment?
Volunteering just doesn't get any bigger than this. Community Commitment is one of the largest single-day community service events on a college campus! Put on by Pay It Forward, this event brings together over 1,700 Buckeyes for a one-of-a-kind community service project.
The event is held before the start of classes, on the Tuesday of Welcome Week. In the fall of 2011 over 1,700 Ohio State University Students, faculty and staff participated and served at over 120 different service agencies around the city of Columbus. The volunteer projects included outdoor clean-up, working with youth, literacy education, serving meals, office work, and a variety of other worthwhile projects.
When is Community Commitment? How can I get involved?
Students wishing to participate in Community Commitment can begin lining up for registration at 8:00am on Tuesday, August 21st, 2012 at the Ohio Union. Following registration and a brief program, students will be transported to service sites across the city of Columbus.
Time: Registration 8am @ Ohio Union
Date: Tuesday, August 21, 2012
Attire: Wear Closed Toed Shoes and Dress Ready to Volunteer. There is a possibility your service site could be outdoors.
Food: Breakfast and Lunch Provided
Additional Details: All service sites will return no later that 2pm to the Ohio Union. Transportation is provided and you will get a free t-shirt. Come with friends or come solo! All volunteers are welcome and there is no pre-registration.
We are currently seeking site leader applications for Community Commitment! Priority application deadline is July 1, 2012. Site Leaders are an integral part of the success of this event as they build relationships, lead reflection and help their fellow Buckeyes get connected to commuity service and start the year off right by paying it forward.
