The Strengths-Based Coaching Program started in winter 2011 through the Center for Student Leadership and Service. Based on the Gallup Organization’s StrengthsFinder assessment and theory of Strengths-based Leadership, this program will encourage students to think critically about their personal strengths and how those affect their approach to campus involvement, academic coursework, career plans, and personal goals. Students will have an opportunity to think reflectively about their time at Ohio State and create an action plan to carry them through graduation and beyond.
The concept of coaching has been applied in a variety of settings - on the field, in the boardroom, and for life in general. The Strengths-Based Coaching Program has been developed just for Ohio State students to focus on the development of lifelong leadership skills through the opportunities available on campus and in our local community.
Application Information
Applications for Spring Quarter can be found here: Strengths-Based Coaching Application SP12 The application is due via email to Melissa Rocco by 5:00pm on Friday, March 2nd, 2012.
Who Should Apply?
Although the program is geared toward students in their second and third years, any student is welcome to apply. This program is designed for students who are engaged both in the classroom and out of the classroom, so having some sort of co-curricular involvement is important. Co-curricular involvement may include student organizations, campus employment, intramurals or other team sports, research, volunteering, or any number of other out-of-class experiences.
When Does the Program Occur?
The program runs for an entire quarter, offered in both winter and spring quarters. Applications for each session will be available in the preceding quarter. Up to 30 students will be accepted each quarter. Student participants are enrolled in a 3-credit hour academic leadership course, Educational Policy and Leadership 270.04, as a Strengths-Based Coaching cohort.
Both the winter and spring groups will meet on Wednesdays from 3:30 - 5:18pm in the Ohio Union.
